REACH
On the 1st June 2007 the new European chemical legislation REACH has entered into force. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. Under the REACH "Regime"all chemicals imported or manufactured above 1 ton/year into the EU have to be registered.
For existing chemicals (mainly substances with an EINECS or ELINCS number) there are transition periods up to 11 years as long as they have been pre-registered. All new substances imported or manufactured above 1 ton/year have to be registered in between 6 months commencing 1st January 2009.
